Hip & Knee Pain
A Message From Joe Terrill, PT, DPT, OCS, SCS, CSCS, TPI-M2-F2, GFS, MFDc, Owner and Operator of Driven Golf Performance & Sports Physical Therapy
It’s simple to believe that hurting knees and hips are a natural part of becoming older. This isn’t always the case, though. Even while wear and strain might aggravate knee problems, there are frequently more underlying factors. It’s crucial to see a doctor if you’re having hip and knee pain or stiffness so they can rule out any more serious issues.
Your knee and hip pain may not have a specific cause, but if you do nothing about it, it will probably just grow worse.
If this is occurring to you, you are not alone; we frequently hear stories like this. In fact, one of the most frequent problems we see in our physical therapy office is soreness in the knees and hips. And everyone we see seeks clarification on the following issues when it comes to managing knee pain:
“How Come This Is Happening to Me? Why, After Enduring It for at Least Six Months and Often Longer, Do I Still Get Knee and Hip Pain That Worsens?”
Many people think that their knee and hip discomfort will eventually go away if they just wait for it to. Sadly, this is frequently not the case. In fact, six months later you might discover that your knee pain is worse than it was at the beginning of your journey.
Does It Describe You?
People visiting their doctor are a typical occurrence in our physical therapy facility. The well-meaning Doctor urges them to “relax”, “try these medicines” and “come back in 6 weeks if it does not better I’ll give you ANOTHER prescription of even stronger drugs, and maybe a knee and hip support. However, 6 weeks later, they generally return because the proposed solutions did not work.
Have You Ever Experienced That?
If You Are Currently Suffering From Knee and Hip Pain, Here Are Seven Additional Reasons Why It May Last Longer Than It Should:
1. You expected it to go away on its own – but it didn’t.
2. You went to the doctor, who ordered you to rest and take painkillers – but the drugs didn’t help; all they did was ‘mask’ the pain, and as soon as they wore off, knee discomfort halted you in your tracks again.
3. Because a family member or acquaintance informed you that everyone has knee discomfort as they get older, you just accepted it.
4. You previously sought assistance from other Healthcare Professionals or a Physio, but nothing they said or did appeared to help.
5. You’ve tried things like knee braces, but they’ve done little to alleviate your agony.
6. You thought resting would be a good idea because you were experiencing extreme pain and swelling in your knees and hip, but it still irritates you on a daily basis.
7. You tried a couple ‘Youtube’ exercises, but they were painful to do and did little to alleviate your pain.
If any of these things have happened to you, we would love to assist you by encouraging you to schedule a call with one of our physical therapists in Inspire to find out what may be done to help you. The fact that you’ve tried any or all of these things is actually a GOOD THING since knowing what doesn’t work brings you closer to discovering what does!

“How Can I Get Rid of My Knee and Hip Pain Fast?”
So, here are four things you can do:
1. You must make a decision regarding seeking assistance – Many people relax for weeks, hoping that the pain will ‘simply fade away with time,’ only to discover six months later that nothing has changed…
2. Next, practice the RIGHT exercises – To help lessen your knee pain and allow for free movement, follow a Physiotherapist’s instructions for a series of progressive exercises. These exercises will also help to keep the condition from recurring.
3. Avoid sitting in uncomfortable positions – The truth is that you and I were not designed to sit for extended periods of time. When you do this, you put your knees and hips in an unpleasant and undesirable position that they can’t maintain for long. If you’re given the correct exercises to strengthen your posture, alongside some hands-on treatment, you can get back to being active and healthy much quicker.
4. Get actual, “hands-on” Physical Therapy – Physical therapy has been shown to help people with knee and hip pain. Physical therapy is, in fact, one of the most common conditions we see among our athletes and active adults at Driven Golf Performance & Sports Physical Therapy. If your knee discomfort interferes with your employment, keeps you from being active, or jeopardizes your independence by interfering with spending meaningful time with family and friends, physical therapy may help you get back to living the life you deserve as soon as possible.
